Muskegon’s history is richly connected to the timber industry, the growth and development of the city largely came from lumber. The cube is inspired by city topography, streets, buildings, cars, etc. The 4 legs are “timbers” that are lifting the city into the future. The cube features blue glass that symbolizes Michigan waters around Muskegon, Lake Michigan. The 40 ton of boulders help to transition from the lower eye shaped wall to the sculpture. The timbers appear to be breaking through the earth to rise and carry the cube to the sky.
